Film Finance & Business Plan Accelerator

An online intensive course focused on how to create a finance strategy and business plan to attract investors and get your film into production.

In order to raise financing for your film you need to understand the nuts-and-bolts of how film financing works AND craft a business plan that clearly communicates your vision to potential financiers.  Before anyone invests in your film they'll need to see:

  • An "investment grade" project
  • A solid finance strategy in a realistic budget range for your project
  • A tangible strategy for bringing the finished film to market
  • Real numbers that reflect the marketplace
  • Realistic timetables
  • How you intend to recoup their investment that reflects a clear understanding of the independent film marketplace

Understanding the film marketplace is crucial to creating a finance strategy that makes the most sense for your film. Filmmakers often spend years chasing (and never finding) financing because they're raising money based on a flawed financing plan.

There is no one absolute way to finance a film and understanding the marketplace is critical to structuring the right finance plan for your project - one that makes sense for your film, for investors, and for the marketplace.

MOST films require a large piece of equity, if not all equity, even those relying on market-based finance structures. In order to raise equity you need a solid business plan, one that effectively communicates your understanding of your film's place in the current market, your distribution strategy, anticipated revenue sources and, most importantly, how you plan to pay your investors back.

An effective business plans needs to be be as unique as each film - showing a budget realistic for your film's elements and team's pedigree, projecting realistic revenues, realistic distribution strategies, and effectively showing when monies flow back from various distribution channels and what percentages flow back to producers and investors. This is what's most important to investors. The plug-and-play business plans scattered across the internet are outdated and wholly inadequate today. Professionally-created custom business plans are ideal but, unfortunately, cost thousands of dollars and are often cost-prohibitive for independents.

So we created the Film Finance & Business Plan Accelerator, a cost-effective solution for independent filmmakers and step-by-step guide through the process of creating film finance and business plans.

This program is not for filmmakers who are seeking legal advice or boilerplate investment offering documents. In this program we will not be covering any legal issues surrounding film investment or investor offerings or documents, such as private placement memorandums - those are offerings, not business plans. You are fully responsible for seeking qualified legal counsel and verifying compliance with any securities regulations to which you may be subject. FAQ

FAQ

FAQ

FAQ

Q: What if I have questions about the material?
A: You can always ask questions and get feedback at any time in the dedicated program forum.

Q: What can I expect to get out of the Film Finance & Business Plan Accelerator?
A: You'll get as much out of the program as you are willing to put into it. You'll get a ton of real-world information including practical market intelligence, and individualized guidance, but your success in the program depends on your willingness to do the work that's required and the quality and viability of your projects. To see what others have gotten from the program, check out the testimonials on this page to see the results of previous attendees.

Q: Will this program assist me in creating investor offerings, such as PPMs, so I can avoid hiring a lawyer?
A: No.  Private Placement Memorandum's and other offerings are legal documents and thus should only be drafted by a lawyer. We believe it's critical that any filmmaker who is looking to raise investment to make a film work with a qualified and reputable attorney who can provide legal counsel and create offerings and legal documents.

Q: So if your not providing me with a PPM, what's the point of the program? Isn't that what the whole business plan is about?
A: A business plan is a document that introduces your project to potential investors, conveys how much private equity you need and how you plan to generate revenue with your project. This program is focused solely on creating business plans. The PPM is an actual investment offering, breaking down shares in the film, and generally an addendum. Lawyers can charge thousands of dollars to create a business plan (that does not include PPM charges). Filmmakers can save significantly by creating their business plan on their own, and have a lawyer review and verify all securities regulations are adhered to, before sending it out to potential investors.

Q: Am I guaranteed investment for my film if I take this program and write a business plan?
A: Of course not. This program will dissect the essential parts of a well-constructed film finance strategy and business plan and walk you step by step through creating them for your film. But you are responsible for doing the work, finding investors, and providing a certain level of commercial value in your projects, which provides investors with the chance to earn a return. Seeking an investor who expects returns should not be confused with seeking a patron of the arts, who is often motivated solely by a desire to support the arts and creative endeavors. Seeking investments and seeking donations or arts patronage are very different.

Q: I have some additional questions about the program. How can I contact you?
A: Please CONTACT US and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the program.
